Selecting Wedding Photography & Wedding Video Services

Your wedding day is considered to be one of the most important days in your life. Planning such a day requires a great deal of planning and selecting the correct personnel for your special day.

Selecting stylish Wedding Photography and wedding video services requires you to research the market and ask as many questions possible. More than likely you would have a set budget for each particular service for your wedding day. At times you will be stressed and overwhelmed by the enormous task ahead of you. The key to a successful wedding day does require much research and a careful selection process.

Wedding Photographers and your Wedding Videographer are a crucial part of your wedding day. Hiring the correct people should be initially based on viewing their website, making a decision then and their if the work suits your style.

Your next set should be to ask family, friends, or business contacts about the services you have selected and see if they have a good reputation in the industry. If you have the ticks then you should call and see the professional’s in person and view their work.

Before the initial meeting, it’s recommended that you have your questions written down so you can fully understand what you will be receiving with the wedding package.

Some typical questions that you should consider to ask maybe the following:

What are the wedding packages?

How many photographers will shoot the day?

How do I receive my wedding video?

What Video format will I receive?

Is it High Definition?

DO you have travel fees?

How long have you been in business for?

Will you shoot my wedding day or will someone else shoot it?

DO you have back up camera equipment?

How many wedding videos do I receive?

How long is the edited wedding video version?

What is the turn around for wedding video pickup?

What is your payment policy?

How many proofs will I receive?

Do you require meals at the wedding?

Is there a guarantee?

Allocating a budget for your photography and Wedding Video Sydney service should allow for the service you require. What you pay is what you will get! Paying for quality images and video is far better than skimping out on this service for your big day. Remember your photos and wedding video is the only evidence on your day that you actually got married. Of course the wedding marriage certificate and testimonials does play a part also.

Selecting your wedding video production team and photography service is a major part of your day. Being comfortable with the people who will be shooting your day will ensure that your images and wedding video is what you have wanted to see.

Choosing a Professional Wedding Photographer for your Wedding Day! Thina Doukas Wedding Photography Sydney

Choosing a Professional Wedding Photographer for your Wedding Day!

It’s important to remember that the wedding photographer you choose will be responsible for capturing the moments and memories of what may be the most important day of your life! Your Wedding Day!

With this in mind, you’ll want to make an informed decision in choosing a professional wedding photographer to shoot your wedding day – There are no second chances!

Many couples become so detailed in planning their wedding day such as the obvious wedding dress, wedding cake, the guest list, decorations, flowers etc, etc – yet they overlook the importance of selecting the right wedding photographer to shoot their wedding day.

The Question is Where Do You Begin?

I’m sure you have all been to a wedding in the past and have seen a wedding photographer at work – Ask your friends, relatives, co-workers for suggestions on wedding photography. You fill find people who have had positive experiences with photographers are more than willing to share that information. In addition, you’ll already have some insight about the photographer’s personality before you actually meet.

Gather all the information and visit each photographer’s web site and thoughtfully review his or her online wedding gallery portfolio.

You can also enhance your searching by visiting google and typing in wedding photographer and placing in the city with your search to narrow down your list. An example of this may be if you are looking for a Sydney based wedding photographer, then type in “ Wedding Photographer Sydney” or “ Sydney Wedding Photography” on the Google search tab.

Narrowed Down Your Wedding Photographer List?

You have viewed your list of wedding photographer’s galleries. Next step, call or email each photographer on your list.  Through this initial contact, you can determine the photographer’s availability, the type of work they specialize in (candid or traditional) as well as an estimate of the cost and what you’ll receive for that fee

Start scheduling appointments and then visit each wedding photographer in their photographic studio.

Ask each of them to show you a complete portfolio of a single wedding–this will give you a much clearer sense of what you can expect than a collection of choice shots from several different events. Pay attention to whether the photographer is adept at portraying individual expressions and personalities

Keep in mind the photographer should have a personality to complement your wedding day. This is vital that you get along with the photographer so you are relaxed and assured on your wedding day.

Meeting with the Wedding Photographer!

Before you meet the professional photographer write down your questions prior and take thorough notes during the meetings. You will find that most wedding photographers will provide you with a clear outline of their services and fees prior to your meeting. Remember, the more information you have, the more confident and relaxed you’ll feel on your special day.

Typical Wedding Questions to Ask?

•What are the wedding package costs and what do you get with it?

•How will the wedding proofs be displayed for selection (e.g., electronic, proofs, contact sheets, online gallery, etc.)?

•Will you help me choose the final photos for my wedding album?

•How will you make it easy for friends and family to order reprints?

•What are the costs of the various levels of coverage?

•Are there different degrees of coverage?

•What is your photography style; photojournalistic, traditional, mixed, etc.?

•How much for the duplicate prints, albums, folios, enlargements, thank you cards, etc.?

•What’s your time frame for preparing the wedding photos for my selection?

•Pre-wedding shoots?

•How long do I have to make up my mind as to which pictures I want and how many?

•How long have you been in business?

•What kind of guarantee comes with my hiring you?

•How many photographers will shoot the day?

•Do you have travel fees?

•How much is your overtime fee?

•What do you plan to do at my wedding to make my wedding photographs unique and personal to me?

•Do you have backup cameras?

•Will you be shooting my photos personally?

•Are the images high resolution?

•What’s your payment policy?

•Do you give any guarantees on your services and photographs?

•What is the possibility of the pictures fading?

•Do you need to be fed at the wedding venue?

How Much Will It Cost?

Considering wedding venues make up the significant cost on your wedding day with typical charges in excess of $130 + a head these days – From experience some wedding venues are charging $250 + a head so when you have a guest list of 250 and you are hit with a $62,500 bill just for food – Then Paying for wedding photography is priceless and will be with you for a lifetime.

Allocate a budget of $3000+ for wedding photography to ensure you have a professional wedding photographer to document your event. Ensure you know exactly what is included in the wedding package so that there are no excess charges when picking up wedding albums, wedding enlargements etc.

Made Your Decision?

You should now be ready to leave a deposit with your chosen wedding photographer and reserve the date. Some final last minute questions may be to find out what the photographer’s policy for wedding-date changes is and what the alternatives are if he or she is not available on the backup date.

Do not skimp on the wedding photography for your special day. It’s the only documented evidence that you really got married except for the signed marriage certificate and testimonials from your guests.

A great professional photographer will enjoy your wedding day. They will interact with your bridal party as friends. This will ensure you will have fun on your day and your images will reflect that on pick up!

Choosing the Best Digital Camera – Wedding Photography – Thina Doukas

Choosing the Best Digital Camera – Wedding Photography – Thina Doukas

February 24, 2010 2 Comments

You have now been an amateur photographer and would like to advance your career into shooting wedding photography. The question is which is the best digital camera to buy? There are so many makes and different models on the market that choosing the best camera is a difficult process.

The leading brands in digital wedding photography include Nikon and Canon. You will see many photographers using this equipment due to their excellent manufacturing quality.

In this article we will outline the key points to look out for in selecting the appropriate camera to use when shooting wedding photography. Understanding the terminology and then comparing makes and models can then narrow down your decision. Buying camera gear is not cheap and careful research is required.

To get a feel of what a digital camera is composed of you must know certain factors to consider when making that final decision:

Megapixels

The resolution of an image is based on the mega pixel specifications of your digital camera. The higher the megapixels the higher the resolution a image will appear. To understand this easier, when you are to enlarge a high resolution photo you wont get graininess and distortion. On the other hand the lower the resolution then the image is limited to the enlargement capacity.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

The LCD is the viewfinder which allows you to see the image immediately after taking the photo. The better digital cameras have larger LCD screens which have great quality.

Zoom – Lenses.

You will find that digital cameras have 2 ranges in zooms. One is the digital and the other an optical zoom. The greater the optical zoom attachment the more expensive the camera usually is.

Memory Card

Memory cards are the memory storage units that will store your photography images until you upload onto a dvd or computer. The size of the storage will depend on the work you are shooting. In wedding photography having 16MB and 32MB cards is required as you are shooting well over 1200 images a session. There are now 1G memory cards that can store enormous amounts of photos.

The best digital camera should be based upon your specific usage. There is no need in spending thousands of dollars on gear if you are shooting the occasional party. On the other hand photographing a wedding requires professional equipment. The Nikon and Canon range have an excellent reputation in providing high quality digital cameras. Research and then select wisely!

Understanding Digital Photography – Techniques for Better Wedding Photography

The new age technology has given rise to the digital SLT camera. They are a fantastic photography device for capturing moments in time. Their specifications enable them to easily manipulate photography images. However, to create a great photo whether its wedding photography, kids photography, portrait photography etc, you still require skills to produce great images.

Following are some guidelines that you should consider to maximise the benefits when shooting photography.

Simplicity

Zoom in to capture the component you want to point out.

Rule of thirds

When capturing a moving object, it is advisable to capture them moving into the imaginary tic-tac-toe frame from one of the two sides.

Vantage point

To add significance or emphasis to an object, take a picture at a lower vantage point. Increasing the height away from the object can reduce its significance.

Balance

Pick out the dominant objects and arrange them so that they complement each other. Nevertheless, unbalanced or asymmetrical objects are often more visually stimulating than balanced objects.

Framing

Framing is essential in composing the image correctly in the images. Allows for less work in post editing

Indoor photographs

You can use natural lighting when you are taking candid shots so that the subjects will appear in its most natural form

Camera adjustments

The aperture allows light to enter. You must learn how to adjust this properly and appropriately so that images will not appear as either very bright or very dim.

Lowering the shutter speed allows the image to be more exposed to light. You must learn the proper length of exposure so that images will not appear as blurry.

ISO speeds

Digital cameras have ISO speeds ranging from 100 to 3200. The higher the ISO, the higher the camera’s sensitivity to light’s exposure. Be sure to master using this element along with the camera’s aperture and shutter speeds.

Lens/Filters

There are digital cameras that allow additional lenses to be attached to the main lens, or the lenses can be completely interchangeable.

Lenses can be categorized as follows:

  • macro lens – allows you to get closer to objects like insects and flowers
  • wide-angle lens – used for capturing landmarks, and large and wide sceneries
  • telephoto lens – allows longer zooms that let you get close to objects that are rather unsafe

Filters, on the other hand are used to:

  • soften the effect of the image provide blurring on the edges for portraits that have sensitive moods
  • add light flares for the image to be more dramatic to reduce glare so that pictures appear more saturated, crisp, and vivid.

Software for Post Editing

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Apple’s iPhoto
  • Corel Paint Shop Pro
  • Google Picasa
  • LView

Understanding these main points in digital photography will ensure you take great images. Practice makes perfect and although you should know the technical terms, practicing in real time is the only true way of becoming a better photographer.

Understanding White Balance with Your Digital Camera – Wedding Photographer Sydney – Thina Doukas

Understanding White Balance with Your Digital Camera – Wedding Photographer Sydney – Thina Doukas

Understanding White Balance with Your Digital Camera

www.thinadoukasphoto.com

An important setting on your camera is called the white balance sensor. This added component to digital photography analyses lighting conditions and colours in a particular environment you are in. Adjusting the sensor will adjust the white in the photography image to make it appear more white.

You may have taken a photo at a wedding function where the photography has come out with a blue type tint. Or if you have been shooting a room which in true is white but has come out not crisp and in its natural state.

By manipulating the white balance on your digital camera and adjusting according to specification tolerances, you are able to produce a photography that is natural as possible. This is a fantastic advantage for an amateur or professional wedding photographer as you are able to make quick adjustment immediately to compensate for white balance deficiency on your camera.

These days most digital cameras have an automatic white balance adjustment to make it user friendly. On the other hand the professional photographer has a range to choose from ranging from settings such as “temperature” “warm” to enhance the colours particularly in portraits and sunset shoots.

It is recommended that you play with the settings available on your digital camera to create the image that you desire. Make sure that you may have to adjust the white balance depending on the surroundings. In time you will gain more confidence in developing settings fast for each photo shoot.

Also, when playing with the settings over compensating the white balance may cause problems when editing in adobe photoshop or lightroom. What appears on the digital camera in the viewfinder is most likely to be different to the on-screen photo image.

Ensure you play around until you come to an optimised setting to create your perfect photography image.

Finally, white balance is a small component of photography. Being able to understand all the capabilites of your digital camera when shooting weddings, portraits or landscapes will increase the quality of your photography skills for the future.

Your Essential Lighting Tips for Wedding Photography

www.thinadoukasphoto.com

www.blog.thinadoukasphoto.com

Wedding Photography requires a few skills in making your prints appear professional. One section of making a photograph image professional is lighting. Lighting in wedding photography is paramount in creating fantastic images. Taking photos of subjects not well lit will not turn out the way you would wish for. We have listed some great strategies below for lighting and wedding photography.

Tip 1: When to use natural light or flash photography?

If you are utilizing natural light you will depend on the Kelvin level to find out the temperature of light and consequently the colour of light. The colouring of light is essential to maintaining the colours you see around you. For example the warmer the light the redder the light will probably be, therefore you might need to choose the time period you’ll go out and shoot the wedding photographs.

Tip 2: Determine the Sun’s Colour Levels

A Wedding photographer would need to comprehend the sun’s colour level. Images usually lead the viewers toward certain emotions; usually softer colours evoke more emotion. Therefore comprehending the suns impact on the colours can help you find the correct time of day. The sun evokes blue hues every day, while closer to midday you’ll find more neutral colours. The neutral colours usually takes away some of the actual definition you want in your photograph. Understanding exactly how you would like to shoot the image will also assist you to determine when you wish to take the image.

When using natural light you will have to work along with the angle and direction of the natural light. If the natural light is broad and diffused you’ll have softer shadows whilst the more narrow the light is focused the more shadow you can create. Frequently at noon when the sun’s rays is in mid arc you lose distinction of the subject matter. The actual subject could appear grainy. This is why shadow is used; the shadows can provide you more quality towards the image if used the right way. This provides to the beauty of your pictures.

You can also alter sunlight through certain techniques. Modifying sunlight when taking portraits outdoors requires the use of a background. You might choose to a breath taking landscape which will offer more composition towards the photo. You may need to block the sun in the event that it interferes with you or your subject’s sight. You might also bring in a white surface to fill the shadows. Landscape photography demands less work than typically natural light for portraits. The truth is using natural sunlight for landscape photography without having modifications can yield you a much better photograph.

Wedding Photography is an art that requires strategies and practice. Lighting is an important part of photography, especially when you’re using natural light. Natural light can bring plenty of shadows or take them away according to period. Understanding the most effective time for taking a photograph depends upon the sun’s position. Wedding Photography can be an interesting hobby and career whenever practiced properly will give you an abundance of images for your home and others.

Whether you are a professional or a novice photographer, you want to produce some exquisite photos with the proper lighting. With this in mind, choose your lighting according to your needs and the needs of your subject or object. Your images will be delightful with brightness when you use the best lighting situation.
