Wet Weather Wedding Photography – Don’t Stress its Great!
You would of heard that its good luck to get married on a rainy day, but try telling that to the photographer and the bride-groom to wed. Luckily for everyone concerned that the Sydney climate is quite stable and rain is very limited to short spurts rather that torrential rain day in day out.
Having cloud cover on your wedding day is fantastic as the lighting is soft, complementary and fantastic for wet weather wedding photography. However, if you are planning an outdoor wedding ceremony or location photos in the city of Sydney where it is exposed, it pays to have a back up plan organised.
A few recommendations which can settle the nerves is to follow the pointers below:
Check the Sydney Weather Forecast
Check the weather forecast the week of the wedding which is 5-7 days prior to the big day. Most Sydney forecasts are quite accurate but of course climate control is not 100%, so keep that in mind. Click on Sydney Bureau of Meteorology to obtain your weather warnings for the week
Wedding Ceremony Plans if there is Wet Weather
If you have organised your wedding ceremony outside the venue and there is a chance of rain, check with the reception centre for moving the ceremony within the venue as a contingency plan. You will also have to move the outdoor decorations inside if this is the case.
If you are having the ceremony in a garden, try to plan it near a gazebo or rotunda which can act as shelter if the skies open up. This will act as cover to protect you from the rain and prevailing winds.
Book the Queen Victoria Building
You can also book the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney prior to your wedding day as a back up. The QVB is fantastic for wedding photography offering a range of heritage backdrops, from exclusive designed shops, beautiful stair cases and sandstone walls.
Keep this option open if the forecasts are predicting rain on your wedding day.
Wet Weather Photography Ideas
A professional photographer will have ideas that can be implemented if rain is the likely case. Don’t stress as some amazing photos can be created from the dark clouds in the foreground. They will add drama and a punch in your wedding photos and also eliminate harsh lighting and shadows.
Have some umbrellas with you! The white ones are fantastic for great, candid photography photos as they allow light through the umbrella. The photographer will have their own wet weather gear so they can stand in the rain and position you under shelter.
Head to the Piers down at Walsh Bay! Pier 1 – 9 offers many sheltered areas where you can still shoot photography. Check with Pier 9 as they have changed that into private residential area which may be off limits not to the public!
Most Importantly! It’s Your Wedding Day so relax and take all the moments in!
If it’s raining on your wedding day don’t worry about it. Wet weather wedding photography can be fun. Keep the back up plans in check and enjoy your day! Smile, relax and celebrate your day like a smashing party.
